Lord Belial was
formed in 1992 by the four present members; Dark - guitar and
vocals, Vassago - guitars, Bloodlord - bass, and Sin - drums. The
foursome have a varied musical background, but the same goal; to
unleash the beast that has so long been kept in chains. Lord
Belial is more than a band, it is a force of nature, as the name
implies (Belial symbolizes North, earth and has no master. He is
the 68th demon). The countryside and the forest of the west parts
of Sweden is where Lord Belial come from. Vassago and Sin have
played together in different bands since 1985 and Bloodlord has
played Swedish folkmusic for a long time. Dark has played in the
infamous Satanized, Decameron etc. and often performs alone with
his schooled, classical guitar-playing on different stages in
Sweden.
The first official recording by the officially started band Lord
Belial, was called 'The Art Of Dying' and contained seven tracks.
This demo is well played and has a raw and distinguished Black
Metal sound. A video was made to the song "Jesus
Fails". In 1994 they recorded their second demo 'Into The
Frozen Shadows', a more well-produced demo with many melodic
flute-lines. It was this demo that got them a record-deal on the
No Fashion-label. A video was made to the song "Into The
Frozen Shadows", this was broadcasted on some Swedish
TV-stations. A tour followed and they made some publicity in the
media because of their violent scene-show.
They entered the studio in late 1994 to do a pre-recording to
their first album 'Kiss the Goat' which was later recorded in
studio Soundfront, Uppsala, 21/11-30/11 1994. The album was
delayed by the incompetent manufacturing of the cover which at
first was totally pink! The first 1000 copies were burnt! Then,
the cover got all wrong again and was released anyway. Neither
the band or the record-company were satisfied. Songs from the
'Kiss the Goat'-album were featured on the Blackend-compilation
plus some other compilation-CD's.
In 1995 they made some tours and gigs in Sweden with
brothers-in-arms Decameron, Dissection etc. At the end of 1995
they made a pre-recording to their second album, 'Enter the
Moonlight Gate'. This album was later recorded at Studio Fredman,
Gotheburg, April 1996 (!) and released in the end of June 1997
(!).
In February-March 1996 they toured in Sweden with Dark Funeral
and some other Swedish bands, Black Winter Tour .
In May 1996 they recorded "The Trooper" by Iron Maiden.
This cover is featured on a Japanese Iron Maiden-tribute. In
October 1996 Lord Belial played a tour in east Germany as
headline-act and it was a total success! The band remains eager,
the line-up the same...it is only the violence that increases.
The album 'Enter the Goonlight Gate' truly shows the bands
potential as one of the leading Swedish black metal-acts.
